INSIGHTS ON THEATRE FROM SEAN HOLMES
As part of its fourth term, Zorlu PSM’s “PSM Workshop” — an educational initiative launched in 2021 and continued with the corporate support of Mey | Diageo — hosted an inspiring session for young talents featuring Sean Holmes, Associate Artistic Director of Shakespeare’s Globe.
In its first three years, PSM Workshop — supported by Mey | Diageo — has graduated a total of 69 students and brought 26 original theatre productions to life. The program continues to offer a seven-month education to 22 students through three distinct tracks: Dramatic Writing, Theatre Directing, and Theatre Producing.
As part of the curriculum, the students had the chance to meet and work with Sean Holmes, who has directed acclaimed productions at world-renowned stages including the National Theatre, the RSC, Tricycle, Royal Court, Donmar Warehouse, Chichester Festival Theatre, Oxford Stage Company, and the Abbey Theatre in Dublin.
Sean Holmes shared his thoughts on the experience: "It was a great privilege for me to be invited to hold a workshop as part of the PSM Workshop program at Zorlu PSM. Having the chance to exchange ideas with artists from different theatrical cultures and to work with emerging talents who are eager to learn has always been deeply meaningful to me. I had a wonderful experience with PSM Workshop’s aspiring producers, writers, and directors. Over the course of two days, we explored A Midsummer Night's Dream and worked on how to build a production from scratch. Beyond that, we engaged in deep discussions about the purpose and importance of theatre, reflecting on how we can make it more dynamic, impactful, and meaningful for our audiences. It was truly inspiring to witness the progress the participants made in such a short period during the PSM Workshop."
Throughout the session, Holmes shared his experience in directing and stagecraft, helping students broaden their professional horizons. The young theatre makers had the valuable opportunity to gain industry insights from an artist who has left a lasting mark on the world of theatre.
