The exhibition “Converging Waters, Blossoming Hopes”, which opened its doors at HOPE ALKAZAR on September 20, reflected Istanbul’s multi-layered soul and the hopes flourishing after the pandemic through the language of contemporary art. Realized with the support of DIAGEO TURKEY and curated by SİNAN EREN ERK, the project presented works by 15 artists from different generations, making invisible bonds visible and offering a space for dialogue to the audience.

The conceptual framework of the exhibition was built on an approach that views the city as a “body” and nature as the breath of that body. According to ERK, this idea was born from the ways humans reconstructed their relationships both with nature and each other following the pandemic. “The city is not just a space we live in; it is a living body where our relationships, bonds, and dreams are reflected,” says ERK, adding: “Art, just like nature, demonstrates its resilience; it makes invisible bonds visible and multiplies hope.”

CEM SONEL, WITNESS, 2023: Spray paint caps on MDF and plexiglass, 96 x 96 x 7 cm.

ERTUĞRUL GÜNGÖR & FARUK ERTEKIN, 777, 2024: Underglaze painting with acrylic painted edges on ceramic tiles mounted on a wooden base.

MURAT PALTA, THE WONDER BLUES, 2025: Multi-colored underglaze painting technique on tiles, 90 x 130 cm.

The works in the exhibition made visible sometimes nature’s own rhythm, sometimes the hope sprouting in the city, and at other times the individual’s internal resilience. Meeting across a wide spectrum ranging from painting to digital art, the artists interpreted Istanbul’s multi-layered soul through the language of contemporary art. The coming together of artists from different generations offered the audience not just an exhibition, but a space for dialogue.

According to SİNAN EREN ERK, this study reminds us that art can still be a healing power in an age of crises: “In the midst of global fractures, artists continue to keep hope alive. This exhibition was an effort to make visible exactly those moments where hope blossoms.”

BAHAR UÇANLAR – GENERAL MANAGER OF DIAGEO TURKEY

Behind this wave of hope stands a brand that believes in art’s role in strengthening social bonds: DIAGEO TURKEY. The company's General Manager, BAHAR UÇANLAR, summarizes the starting point of the exhibition as follows:

“Culture and art are not just an area of interest for us; they are a way of life that strengthens social bonds. With this exhibition, we wanted to both make the productions of young artists visible and seek new ways to bring art together with society.”

DIAGEO TURKEY’S long-standing support for culture and arts has, for the first time, transformed into its own exhibition. UÇANLAR summarizes that this is just a beginning: “We hosted nearly 100 young art and design students in Istanbul, allowing them to experience this process on-site. Our goal is to create a community where inspiration is shared and grows with hope.”

The exhibition has ended, but the trace it left behind prompts a rethinking of art’s place in collective memory. “Converging Waters, Blossoming Hopes” was a reminder for both artists and viewers: despite all the uncertainties of the time, hope is still blossoming.
